The big news is that I was part of a reality show this week.  I can’t reveal anything until it airs, sometime in December.

Pregnancy was the them as I have been very busy with some amazing future moms creating maternity portraits.    I love it when they bring in some new ideas.  Just when I think I’ve seen it all, they surprise me.

I was published again.  This time in a national fashion magazine called Eliza.  I did an underwater fashion shoot featuring retro swimwear.

Some interesting boudoir photo sessions also added to my schedule.   Their custom books are going to arrive any day.

I also taught a lot of photography classes recently, including studio lighting workshop and fine art nude photography workshop.

The past 2 weeks have kept me so busy that I didn’t get a chance to post until now.

I’ve been doing a lot of teaching.  Introduction to photography, Boudoir photography workshop, Introduction to Photoshop and lots of private lessons.  To see what I am teaching next check out Orcatek Photography Workshops in Phoenix.

In between teaching I’ve had a lot of fun shooting.  One of my favorites was a maternity pin-up photography session.  As you can see, we had a lot of fun.

This week ahead is also swamped, which is good.  Love it when I am busy.

Several students came to the studio for private photography lessons.    A few were repeat students coming in to take more advance classes.  I love teaching photography to enthusiasts.

Maternity photography was another busy area.   Some very excited moms to be came in to capture their pregnancy bellies.  Even some of the siblings got in on the act.

And of course there was a lot of boudoir photography for Valentines that kept my very busy.    So many amazing woman gave such a personal gift to that special man in their lives.

Business is growing slowly but surely.  I have recently expanded my boudoir photography into Las Vegas.  With it being a popular destination for so many, it makes it the perfect place for boudoir photos.

As I mentioned last week, this December has been packed with maternity photography clients.  Each one has been so much fun to work with.  The excitement of a new baby coming into a family is a wonderful thing to share.

Of course I always provide the standard pregnancy photos, but I love it when I can create a unique set of maternity images for a client that they couldn’t get anyplace else.  One of my clients was really into this idea and got an amazing selection of images.  This is one of my favorites.

A few lighting tricks to create this spotlight effect created this shadow.  Amazing flexibility for someone who is 9 months pregnant.  This is the kind of fun I love to have as a photographer.

In between these photo sessions I have been swamped with students taking private photography lessons.   It seems a lot of people want to learn how to take better photos for the holidays and like the idea of a private class on how to use their camera.   I enjoy teaching these budding photographers a few tricks of the trade to help them make their photos better.

This weeks favorite shoot was a maternity photography session.  A young couple came to the studio to capture the memory of this special time in their lives.  Pregnancy happens so few times in your life.   If you follow my work you know I love to create silhouettes for my maternity sessions.

This week I created a silhouette of the couple together.  A thought it was a fun way to capture the love this couple shares with each other and for their new baby.

Next week I will be shooting some more maternity photography for another wonderful future mom.

Jessica came to the studio because she wanted to gets some maternity photographs done to remember her “big belly baby” as she called it.   Jessica was glowing and she looked amazing.  We spent a few fun hours shooting to create all the photographs for her memory book.

As a photographer I really like it when my clients bring in a large variety of outfits to a shoot, as it gives me lots of creative choices.  Jessica brought a ton of fun outfits, resulting in a beautiful collection of shots.  Each photo set created a new mood.

Jessica should deliver her baby soon.

Orcatek Maternity and Pregnancy Photography – Phoenix, Arizona

I  am always wanting my maternity clients to get a wide variety of interesting photographs for their pregnancy book.  One of my very favorite ways to create uniqueness as a photographer is to work with the lighting.  For this shot I wanted the photograph to be all about the shadow shown on the floor.   This required a strong, very directional light.

Mom was a such willing model as I had her adjust her position ever so slightly to just get the perfect light on her face, belly and shadow.  In the end everyone felt it was worth the extra effort to create this interesting maternity photograph.

Your pregnancy is a very special time for the entire family.   And a great way to show this is to involve the entire family in the maternity photographs.  The sample here shows a future big sister posing with her future little sister.

Everyone in the family is looking forward to the new baby’s arrival.  Featuring them in the photo session makes the day fun and special for everyone.  Children always seem to come alive whenever they are asked to pose with their future sibling.  They often have their own ideas of what they want to do, so I always take a few minutes to shoot a few of those frames to keep the enthusiasm going. 

A proud father always makes for a special photographic moment.  The love that you see when the father and mother pose together makes for an amazing photograph.  Capturing this emotional time for the couple creates heirlooms that will be remembered forever.

So consider bringing the family for part of your maternity photography session.   Or maybe do two session, one with the family and one to feature just you.

Orcatek Maternity and Pregnancy Photography – Phoenix

This week I had one of my most enjoyable shoots, a maternity photography session.  A woman’s pregnancy is such a special time that it really needs to be captured in a way that will create a lasting memory.  I have found that using non-traditional techniques for pregnancy photography gives my clients something different.

Bodyscapes are a style that I find is very effective for capturing maternity photographs.  Traditionally this style is reserved for the fine art nude community, it makes an excellent way to capture the magic of pregnancy.  My favorite technique is to use a rim light to really show off the shape of the belly. 

I have an elevated table for the mothers-to-be to lie on so they won’t have to face the challenge of getting up from a low bed or mattress or worse,  the floor.  A single step up and they can easily lie down on the padded table or return to standing.

When I mention I would like to shoot some bodyscapes to my clients they often have no idea what I mean.  But once they see some sample photographs they are sold.
